Santa Mailbox and Dick and Jane

Vintage Christmas Inspiration II

"Dear Santa Claus,
It's me again
reminding you I'm here.
I'm making my list easier
and shorter than last year.

Just leave them underneath our tree
or near our fireplace,
Oh! you probably won't bring them,
but I'm writing . . . just in case."

Jack Prelutsky

This Santa Claus Mailbox is a Union 76 Christmas decoration/PR gimmick.
I was told that during the late 1950s, these mailboxes hung next to the gas pumps.
The gold bow is covering the 76 logo.

PhotobucketThe Christmas Poster on the left was created using the header page from a December 1958 calendar. The Scott Forseman Publishing Co. gave calendars away to teachers during workshops featuring their educational publications. Scott Forseman published the Dick and Jane reading series. They used pictures from the reading series and other textbooks for the header pictures on the calendar. The original calendar header page is shown below.
